What are the components of fire? How do I make a fire by friction? How fast can you make fire in a true emergency? When it’s wet how do I get fire? Matches, lighters, strikers, and bow drills – this is a two-part series. This first part will involve lots of fun and challenge with some conventional and not so conventional tools. Can you build a bow drill? We’ll show you how and get you started.
Finish your bow drill, practice, or bring your bow drill and practice with us! We will go over fine tuning our tools and will also make a hand drill! The fine art of coaxing a coal to life, using the right material, and coal extenders will be addressed. In this class we will also make cordage out of natural fibers and learn how to make a “flexi bow”.
An overnight wilderness immersion class for adults to learn basic skills about shelter, water, fire, food, and plants in the wilderness. Join us for fun, personal exploration, and wilderness education!
We’re not just about learning physical skills. We play games, journal, have group discussions, move through fears, make connections, and above all build confidence and self-efficacy. Our goal is not to just learn to survive, but to learn about who we are as human beings, to connect with the wilderness, not conquer it, to be a part of it and THRIVE. We aim for a depth of understanding and connection absent from many "survival" classes and shows.
