What are the Dates for the 2023 Camps?
Details coming soon
What are the camp hours?
The camp meets from 9am to 3pm. Our day runs slightly longer than other schools to allow for travel time to outdoor locations without compromising adventure time.
WHAT will the children be doing each day
Every day is a new adventure at The Bear's Web. We will visit different areas in an around Southern Oregon and Northern California and explore, hike, build, wander, swim, and learn primitive living skills. Maybe fishing is on the menu for the day or an old growth forest. Learn about shelter, water, fire, and food in the woods. Learn about edible and medicinal plants, making survival mud, and alternative building techniques. Where are the animals? How do we know they were here? How do they live? What do they need to survive?
WHAT ARE THE AGES OF THE CHILDREN IN THE PROGRAM?
We offer a multi-age program, with children ages 6 to 12. We will also work on community and tribe as we invite our 13-15 year olds from The Bear's Web Leadership Program to join us for a fun adventure and a chance to work on their mentoring skills with the younger students.
How many children are in the program?
We limit the amount of children in camp to 10 children each session. At The Bear's Web, we have found that a small group approach is crucial, where each child is recognized as an individual, their unique development and skills being recognized and nurtured.
DO YOU PROVIDE LUNCHES OR SNACKS?
Due to our outdoor sessions occurring in the field, children need to bring their own lunch, snack and at least a 16 oz non-leaking water bottle.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING WITH YOU TO camp?
Every child should bring a backpack that they can wear all day. Please include in the backpack a lunch, snack and water. Please wear waterproof gear including comfortable waterproof shoes. If you have a fixed-blade knife or other tools, you can bring those with you as well. It is also good to have a water filter (Sawyer Mini or Frontier Pro or Katadyn) for refilling water when it runs out. Shakina will send families an e-mail prior to each week if there are any specific items to bring that are not part of the normal kit, such as specific clothing, tools, flashlights etc.
Where do students meet for the program?
Our main campus is located about 15 minutes outside of Ashland, Oregon in the beautiful Colestine Valley. We provide transportation for all our students in our 15 passenger van. Pick up and drop off is from the Shop n Kart parking lot (268 Ashland St, Ashland, OR 97520). Please note if your child is using a booster seat, please bring it with you to camp each day. We do not have any extra booster seats for children.
ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO GO OUTSIDE IN ALL WEATHER?
Yes! In cases of severely inclement or unsafe weather, we spend more time in our classroom on our campus. However, our goal is to teach children to be safe and happy outdoors in any weather. Guidance is offered to parents in preparing and dressing their child for success.
WHAT IS YOUR DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY?
True discipline comes from within. We encourage students to find the limits of the natural world by learning from the wild and from each other. We set very clear, firm safety limits and allow freedom within those boundaries to develop self-regulation. Through compassionate conversation and community building, children balance independence with accountability to their community and the natural world. When a child is consistently crossing necessary safety boundaries, we work with them and their parents to find positive solutions that take into account the needs of the whole group.
HOW DO I BEGIN THE APPLICATION PROCESS?
Begin by filling out the application online. We then will send you a follow-up e-mail with a form with some additional questions and will schedule a phone conversation to see if AmanEtania is the right fit for you and your child. Before any student begins our program, parents will need to fill out our release waiver. Please print out the waiver, sign it and bring it with you to your child's first day of class
